Graduation Party Themes

If you want your graduation party to be unique and memorable then a graduation party theme just might be the answer.  Having a theme also makes it easier to decorate and plan your menu. There are lots of theme ideas to choose from.

If your grad is off to college then this is an easy theme to use. Decorate in your grad’s college colors – table cloths, tableware, serving dishes, streamers and balloons can all be purchased in a wide variety of colors. Buy some college athletic wear through your college’s online store - t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats – and use these as decorations. Your grad will be thrilled to wear this stuff after the party is over. For more decorations buy car decals, bumper stickers, pom poms & bullhorns from your college of choice.

For a fun activity, get a huge map of the US or the World and post it on your wall or on a bulletin board. Provide your guests with post it arrows or push pins so they can indicate which colleges they’re going to. At the end of your party it will be fun to see where everyone is going. Go to GraduationParty.com’s theme page to see an example of this.

Does you grad have a favorite after school sport or activity like football, basketball, music or drama? Then use this as your theme. Decorate using sports jerseys, trophys and sports themed tableware. Or use musical instruments, sheet music, and musical notes cut out of cardboard. Black & white are great colors to use for music.

Is your grad the fun-loving, class clown type? Then find some goofy photos and get them blown up to poster size. GraduationParty.com has lots of different poster options to choose from – many different sizes and styles at reasonable prices.  Put the posters all over your party area. Hire some entertainment like a magician or face painter. Ask your guests to write some funny (but tasteful) stories about your grad and host a roast.

Did your grad study a foreign lanaguage in school? Are they travelling to another country? Do they love the beach? Or do they love Mexican, Asian or Italian food? Then this can be your theme.

Mexican Fiesta parties are very popular and are lots of fun. Serve “walking tacos” or create a taco bar and have a few sombreros that your guests can wear and have their picture taken in. Have a couple of pinatas on hand for some fun throughout the party.

Italian food is easy to serve. Have a few varieties of pasta (short pasta like rotini and penne is best) and a few varieties of sauces (meat sauce, tomato sauce, cream sauce). Add some bread and a green salad or two and you’re all set.

Decorate in the colors of the country you choose and hang posters of famous landmarks from that country.

Luaus and beach parties are also popular. Serve bbq and non-alcoholic fruity drinks. Decorate in bright, sunny beach-like colors.
